- In October 2007, Rendezvous Rotary Club of Whitehorse launched Yukon Imagination Library in all Yukon communities outside of Whitehorse.
- In 2009, Yukon Imagination Library reached children in Whitehorse as well.
- This initiative is in partnership with Yukon Literacy Coalition and Yukon Government.
- A child could receive up to 60 books before they reach kindergarten!
- The books are sent by mail to the child’s home and labelled to his/her name.
- Registration is free and available for every Yukon child from birth to age 5.
- Books are age appropriate and the book list changes every year.
- In 2013, over 15,000 books alone were distributed in the Yukon.
- Improving school readiness is important for Yukon’s children to succeed at school and in life.
- Research shows that the best indicator of future success of a child in school and in life is the number of books at home.
- Recent research shows that reading to children early and before they are three is linked to higher success rate later in school.
