Over $35,000 raised at Annual Geoscience Awards Banquet
Whitehorse, Yukon – The Yukon Chamber of Mines (YCM) in partnership with the Yukon Imagination Library and Yukon Government raised $35,000 for the Yukon Imagination Library at the Annual Geoscience Awards Banquet. Held at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre on Monday evening, $17,700 was raised through a silent and live auction and a commitment by Yukon Government to match funds raised brought the total to a whopping $35,000.
“Industry contributes to healthier communities through numerous mediums and the Geoscience Awards Banquet is no exception.” said Brad Thrall, President of YCM. “It’s a pleasure to see the mining community coming together during challenging times for the industry to raise funds for family literacy”.
“We are extremely grateful to the Yukon Chamber of Mines and the generosity of the entire mineral industry for their support of family literacy in Yukon” said Yukon Imagination Library advocate and Rendezvous Rotary Club member Claire Derome. “These funds which are matched by the Yukon Government, will directly support the purchase of 7000 books for 1300 Yukon children this year.”
