20th Annual Lobster Feast Raises Over $28K for the YIL
Whitehorse, Yukon – Despite the evening’s persistent downpour, over 200 guests came together last Friday to enjoy an East Coast dinner and support the Rendezvous Rotary Club of Whitehorse’s 20th Annual Lobster Feast to benefit the Yukon Imagination Library (YIL) family literacy initiative.
The event raised over $28,000 for the volunteer-driven, territory-wide initiative, which provides one free book per month to all enrolled Yukon children from their birth to the age of five.
“We are so appreciative of the generous support our community demonstrated for the Yukon Imagination Library,” said YIL Chair and Rendezvous Rotary member Claire Derome. “On behalf of our volunteer team, we extend sincere thanks to all the event attendees and sponsors who have helped to ensure that we can continue to spark the dreams and imaginations of our territory’s little readers in the year ahead through the books we provide.”
The evening included a special presentation by Dean Knoblauch and Tyson Boychuk of CIBC Wood Gundy in Vancouver. They announced their personal donation to the Yukon Imagination Library of $10,000 and presented their cheque to long-time Rendezvous Rotary club member and YIL champion Con Lattin.
